We at Midlands Children's Physio never underestimate the trust families and carers place in us. Children's physiotherapy just isn't effective unless we all work together.
Our expertise enable us to understand our patients needs, recognise areas for improvement and target them with specific therapies.
Electrical stimulation (often referred to as NMES or FES) is a way of stimulating specific nerves surrounding a muscle. Many children we see struggle controlling the tone in their muscles making it difficult to control movement.
Essentially we either switch the muscle off or on for the patient, enabling us to practice skills, build strength, reduce stiffness and reduce pain.
SDR really does change lives. We at Midlands Children’s Physio know how to maximise the opportunity this surgery offers and are able to recognise those who may benefit from it . We guide families through pre and post surgery, ensuring children and young people reach their goals.
Virtually every patient we see has some form of weakness due to the nature of their conditions. Targeted strength training is essential to improve function, reduce joint stiffness and increase independence.
You can’t go wrong getting strong!
A good orthoses has 2 jobs, maintain foot integrity and improve function. If we’re not achieving both of these things, then we are setting up our children to fail.
It can make the difference between independent walking or struggling to take that first step.
Repetition repetition repetition! If we want to get better at anything we have to practice. We pride ourselves on being able to engage children in therapy and achieve goals we are working towards. Working together we’ll come up with goals and get the most out of our sessions.
Postural management is vital to our patients long term outcomes and independence. We are able to offer advice and guidance for our families, recommending equipment or exercises to manage patients needs throughout the day.
